La salida de Emiliano es un gran acontecimiento en la familia que le recibe con gran alegr&iacute;a y como a un h&eacute;roe. Pero m&aacute;s tarde, prefieren que nadie en el pueblo le vea y se entere para as&iacute; poder cobrar la pensi&oacute;n de viudedad El protagonista termina escapando del encierro al que le somete la familia, con ayuda del nieto, que es &uacute;nico que le comprende. Pero en el pueblo ya nadie le hace caso ni le reconoce. Valor did&aacute;ctico Alta, pues muestra la realidad de los topos si bien en clave de comedia. Da pie a debatir sobre la vida de los topos, destrozada por el miedo a la represi&oacute;n franquista. Los topos fueron republicanos que permanecieron escondidos por miedo a represalias franquistas durante largos a&ntilde;os. Son bien conocidos gracias al libro que publicaron en 1977 Manu Leguineche y Jes&uacute;s Torbado Los topos que narra la historia de 24 de estas personas. Hubo cientos de "topos", los cuales pudieron permanecer ocultos gracias al apoyo de su c&iacute;rculo m&aacute;s cercano. Aunque muchos de ellos abandonaron su escondite en 1969, cuando la dictadura franquista promulg&oacute; un decreto por el que prescrib&iacute;an todos los presuntos delitos cometidos antes del fin de la Guerra Civil, algunos permanecieron hasta 38 a&ntilde;os escondidos. Casos c&eacute;lebres de "topos" que permanecieron ocultos hasta la d&eacute;cada de 1960 fueron Manuel Cort&eacute;s Quero, &uacute;ltimo alcalde republicano de Mijas (M&aacute;laga), que permaneci&oacute; escondido entre 1937 y 1969,3 o Eulogio de Vega, alcalde socialista de Rueda (Valladolid), que estuvo oculto hasta 1964.2 Protasio Montalvo, alcalde de Cercedilla, estuvo oculto hasta 1977. En la pel&iacute;cula vemos como el alcalde franquista devuelve todo lo usurpado en la guerra, como la casa del peulbo. Tambi&eacute;n vemos el escondite del topo decorado con simbolog&iacute;a republicana, sobre todo un retrato de Aza&ntilde;a, personaje muy querido por el protagonista, que fue comandante m&uacute;sico.
