Se analizan las alternativas reforma y ruptura y su conclusión en un pluralismo democrático a través de una política de alianzas (consenso) entre los partidos. El estudio de U.C.D. como fuerza política dentro del espectro de partidos de la transición es la unidad de investigación. Sus antecedentes históricos, formación y consolidación de la nueva monarquía parlamentaria, así como de sus principios fundamentales, estrategia y posición ante las instituciones son igualmente analizados. Se analizan por ultimo los conflictos de la elite del partido, subdivisión en diferentes familias y su ruptura y desaparición es el análisis de un partido político que aglutinando a diversas fuerzas llevo a cabo la transición y que, terminada esta, al encontrarse con una sociedad desarrollada se tuvo que enfrentar a una amplia problemática que pedía algo más que un simple mimetismo de prestigiosos modelos del pasado.
