Pero, como suele ocurrir, los poderosos siempre disponen de ciertos recursos para acallar a sus enemigos indefensos... Con reminiscencias de la narrativa picaresca y de la tradición aforística chinas, En el estanque es una hermosa metáfora de un microcosmos social en el que se agita lo mejor y lo peor del género humano.
