Este mapa se orienta al trabajo con alumnos de 16-18 años. En él se analiza la evolución de la producción y algunos factores de crecimiento económico para poder sacar conclusiones sobre las repercusiones del proceso de globalización en el desarrollo económico. La clasificación de los diferentes tipos de economía en el mundo, en función de su grado y forma de desarrollo se ha realizado siguiendo los criterios de FTSE (Financial Times) y MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International), a los que se han añadido la pertenencia al G20 y, para los países miembros de la Unión Europea, el grado de desarrollo comparado de los mismos.

La inversión extranjera directa (IED) es una categoría de la inversión en otro país, en la que un inversor residente en una economía establece un interés duradero y un grado significativo de influencia en una empresa residente en otra economía. La propiedad del 10 por ciento o más del capital (poder de voto) de una empresa en otro país es la evidencia de tal relación.
