Aunque las protestas ya hace cuatro años que se iniciaron, el pasado sábado, coincidiendo con el día de San Valentín, en las barricadas levantadas por manifestantes por todo el país comenzaron a aparecer ositos de peluche colocados frente a frente a los policías antidisturbios.\r\n\r\nEn las protestas en Bahrain, el día de San Valentín tiene un significado especial: fue el 14 de febrero del 2011 cuando miles de habitantes de esa petromonarquía salieron a las calles en demanda de más democracia, en unas protestas que fueron brutalmente aplastadas por las autoridades. Las protestas, siguiendo el patrón de la primavera árabe, se iniciaron con una petición de mayores libertades y de un trato igualitario para la comunidad chií de Bahrein, marginada por la élite sunní. Poco después, derivaron en la exigencia del derrocamiento del rey Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.\r\n\r\nEste año, los manifestantes celebraron el aniversario de la protestas convocando una huelga de tres días y colocando en las barricadas a esos muñecos infantiles. Los manifestantes jugaban con la metáfora de que si los ositos de pelucha ayudan a los niños a combatir el miedo a los monstruos nocturnos a los jóvenes les ayudarían a vencer el temor a la represión policial.
