Esta tesis lleva a cabo un análisis institucional de la transición y consolidación de la democracia en Chile, partiendo dela importancia de las instituciones, que fijan las reglas del juego político. Hay una serie de aspectos que definen al proceso decambio chileno como una experiencia histórica muy particular y de alguna manera exitosa. La más que significativa estabilidadpolítica que se ha constatado en Chile durante 20 años de democracia, el sostenimiento por muchos años de altas tasas decrecimiento económico, el consecuente aumento del ingreso per cápita, el control general de las variables macroeconómicas y eléxito de las políticas contra la pobreza, incluso en época de crisis económicas mundiales, constituyen aspectos que diferencian elcaso de Chile de otros casos de transición y consolidación democrática.
