Así también consiguió hipnotizar a banqueros de Estados Unidos y Chile, en una espiral detransferencias, triangulaciones y movimientos vertiginosos de capitales.En un ⍈modus operandi⍉ decididamente delictual, utilizó una docena de identidades y documentos falsos paratransferir abultadas remesas de dólares producto de negocios sucios de la compraventa de armas y sortear las regulacionesantilavado de dinero norteamericanas.Sin embargo, tal como acaeció con otros feroces y desalmados tiranos, Pinochet fue abandonado por la suerte que siempre leacompañó. Fue el Senado norteamericano, investigando posibles lavado de dinero de los terroristas islámicos responsables delatentado a las terrores gemelas, quien desveló ⍞en julio de 2004- la madeja tejida por él.Desde el Banco Riggs, el ambicioso dictador se había puesto al margen de la ley, ocultando información y violando lasregulaciones federales, al construir su extensa red de cuentas en EE.UU. a través de las cuales regularmente hizo negocios. Envirtud de la Ley Patriótica, el Sub Comité Permanente de Investigación, destapó toda la red clandestina y con ello los montosmultimillonarios manejados por Pinochet.Como consecuencia de lo anterior, la justicia chilena y sus órganos auxiliares se vieron obligados a incoar un procesocriminal orientado a establecer tanto los impuestos burlados al erario nacional como el origen del botín y las responsabilidadespenales suyas y de toda su camarilla. Amediados de los años ochenta los problemas de viviendas derivaban en las tomas ilegales de terrenos. Una de ellas, en 1983, dioorigen al Campamento Cardenal Silva Henríquez y en él se insertó la UDI para conseguir una solución habitacional para suspobladores.
